Wednesday night was a momentous battle at DVSS as the DVSS Senior Dynos Girls Volleyball team was in the league championship against the Three Hills Royals.
The league holds six teams, including DVSS, Three Hills School, J.C. Charyk (Hanna), Acme, Prairie Christian Academy and Trochu Valley School. Each team plays 10 regular season matches, and the top three advance to the playoff round.
According to Dynos Head Coach, Erica Crocker, this season was one to remember. “It’s been an incredibly remarkable season for the Dynos. In the regular season we went 10 and 0 and had the championship last night (Wednesday night) for the Golden Hills North Division and the Dynos remain undefeated for the league, so we are very very excited and very very proud.”
The Dynos could not take Three Hills lightly as the Royals always seem to bring their best against Drumheller, and that has been the case for years according to Crocker. “They have been competitive with us throughout the last 10 years, since I have been coaching this program. They have always been a tough opponent. With that said, it has always been a fun matchup over the years and seeing the growth between the two teams is awesome. Whenever we play the Three Hills Royals, we know it is going to be excellent volleyball, and last night proved to be no different.” The Dynos were down in the second set and had to come back to win the set 29-27 and take the match two games to none.
The Dynos are now preparing for the 2A Zone Championships in Diamond Valley this weekend. One of their opponents in their grouping, Acme, will be a tough foe as the two teams met in Regionals in Morrin last weekend. Crocker shares that in order for the Dynos to move forward to Provincials in Wainwright next weekend, the Dynos must win the tournament this weekend
The coaching team, comprised of Erica Crocker, Connor Schweder and Alyssa Russel, thank the parents, the fans, the volunteers, DVSS faculty and the referees for their contributions throughout the league season.
