Our Drumheller Dragons had an exciting two games on the Remembrance Day long weekend.
It all started with their Military Appreciation Day game at home on Friday night against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The Dragons invited local veterans and local Sea Cadets to the game to recognize those who fought for our freedom.
Drumheller would get on the board first with Bradley Gallo scoring his league leading 14th goal of the season at 4:21, assisted by Ellis Mieyette. The Dragons would be outshot by a 12-8 margin in the period but would take the 1-0 lead to the second period.
Midway through the second, the Oil Barons would tie the game with Justin Dumais scoring his first of the year at 9:13. The Dragons would regain the lead, on the powerplay, with Bradley Gallo (15) scoring his second of the game, assisted by Ellis Mieyette and Jase Johonstone, with 4:12 left in the second. The Dragons would take the 2-1 lead into the dressing room.
In the third, the Dragons would increase their lead at 8:32 with AJ 10 (Avery Johnson) tallying his fourth of the year, from Will McLaughlin. Then, with 4:13 left in the game, Will McLaughlin scored his first goal of the season, on the powerplay, from Ellis Mieyette and Easton Daneault. The Dragons would take the game by a score of 4-1

The Dragons would then head on the road Sunday afternoon to Camrose to face the Kodiaks. It would essentially be a battle for first place in the division. The Kodiaks would open the scoring at 8:40 with a goal by Cole Balkovec. The Dragons would tie the affair just under two minutes later with Lauchlan Kozicky scoring his sixth of the year, from Avery Johnosn and Tate Yule on the man advantage. The teams would remain tied 1-1 after one period.
The Kodiaks took control in the second with a goal by Nicholas Larkin at 5:31, giving them the 2-1 lead. The with 3:47 left, Camrose would increase their lead to 3-1, with a goal by Tyson Murray.
Drumheller would throw everything including the kitchen sink at Camrose goaltender Carter Capton but would only be able to get one by hit. With 4:00 remaining, Ayden Peters would score his eighth of the year for the Dragons, from Cameron Johnsen and Aiden Connell, making it 3-2 Camrose. Drumheller would pull goaltender Sean Cootes with 2:12 left but even with the extra attacker, could not send the game to overtime. Drumheller would fall 3-2.

The Dragons now have most of this week off as they only have one game on the road on Sunday afternoon. Drumheller will head to Calgary to face the Calgary Canucks. Game time at the Ken Brako Arena is at 2 PM and you can listen on the home of the Dragons, New Country 92.5, starting with the Western GM Pregame Show at 1:45 PM with Jason Blanke and Boedy Shields.
