As many have noticed, the construction work on the Gordon Taylor Bridge continues even though the initial deadline of the end of October has come and gone.
The signage now states that the work will continue to December 2024. Wayne Wood with Alberta Transportation shares “construction is taking longer then originally anticipated due some delays in the supply of key materials needed for the project. The exact extent of the delays is also weather dependent as periods of colder weather will result in needing more time to complete the work”
Wood admits that work crews are trying to reduce delays as much as they can. “The project team is looking at ways to minimize delays and wrap up construction of this first season of construction as quickly as possible while still ensuring a high quality of work.”
Even though the construction is to be completed for the year in December, Wood admits that the concrete barriers will remain. “When work is completed for this season, there will be a temporary concrete barricade down the middle of the bridge, as only half of the bridge will be rehabilitated. Work on the second half of the bridge will start in the spring of 2025. The project is planned to be fully completed by the fall of 2025. Motorists are asked to use caution and obey all signs while driving through the Gordon Taylor Bridge rehabilitation project.”
