The Drumheller Dragons had two home games over the weekend against the same opponent, the Drayton Valley Thunder.
The season series against Drayton Valley has been both close and dominating. That would be the case this weekend. Friday night the Dragons came out flying. Ellis Mieyette scored his fifth of the year, from Will McLaughlin and Easton Daneault, only 1:32 into the first period, to give the Dragons the early 1-0 lead. Then only three minutes later, Bradley Gallo would tally his 10th of the season, from Jase Johnstone on the man-advantage to make it 2-0 Drumheller. The Dragons would out shoot the Thunder by a 12-6 margin in the first period.
In the second, Bradley Gallo (11) would score his second of the game, from Ellis Mieyette only 57 seconds in, to make it 3-0 Drumheller. The at 1:45, Gallo would get his natural hat-trick goal from Ellis Mieyette and Hudson Gainer, giving the Dragons the 4-0 lead. Again the Dragons would out shoot Drayton Valley 11-7 and take the 4-0 lead into the third period.
Drayton Valley would get on the board 51 seconds in with Harper LoLacher scoring, making it 4-1 Dragons. Drumheller would add to their lead at 1:43 with Easton Daneault scoring his sixth of the season, from Ellis Mieyette. Then, at 3:58, Allen Sherpa scored his third of the year, unassisted, making it 6-1 Drumheller. Only 1:30 later, the Dragons would add another, on the power play, with Ayden Peters scoring his seventh of the season, from Avery Johnson and Allen Sherpa. The Thunder would get one with 4:47 remaining, by Tim Kin, to make the final 7-2 Dragons

These same two teams would meet again at the Memorial Arena on Saturday night and the Drayton Valley Thunder came to play. The Dragons would open the scoring with 1:30 left in the first period with a power play goal by Lauchlan Kozicky (4) assisted by affiliate player Reily Pickford and Avery Johnson. Drumheller would take the 1-0 lead into the intermission.
Drayton Valley would take control of the game in the second period. Zach Bansley of the Thunder would tie the game on a power play at 13:54. Then with 1:49 left in the period, Ben Buckley would give Drayton Valley the lead 2-1. Only 34 seconds later Harper LoLacher of the Thunder, would increase their lead to 3-1.
Drumheller would have their opportunities in the third period but could not solve Drayton Valley goaltender Nicholas Cristiano. Drumheller would have a four minute power play midway through the third as well as a power play with under two minutes to go but couldn’t get one past Cristiano. Drayton Valley would seal the deal with an empty net goal by Billy Hooson, short-handed, to make the final 4-1 Thunder.

The Dragons will look to bounce back on Wednesday night as the Whitecourt Wolverines pay their final visit to the Memorial Arena. The Dragons are looking to even the season series at two games a piece. Game time on Wednesday night is at 7 PM.
