Your Drumheller Dragons had two close games at home this weekend but unfortunately were on the wrong end on both.
Saturday night, the Whitecourt Wolverines paid their first visit to the Memorial Arena this season. A great crowd was on hand and they were treated to a close game. It was an even first period with no scoring and the Dragons outshooting the Wolverines by a 10-9 margin.
Drumheller would open the scoring at 7:14 of the second period with Aiden Connell scoring his third on the year, from Trip Jensen, and Devon Winder. The Dragons would take the 1-0 lead to the intermission.
Whitecourt would even things up early in the third with Dylan Ruptash scoring at 3:03. Only 50 seconds later, Dragon forward Trip Jensen would score his first of his AJHL career, from Aiden Connell, giving the Dragons the 2-1 lead. Drumheller would get in some penalty trouble late in the third, and it would cost them. On a five on three advantage, veteran Ewan McPherson would score his fifth of the year, tying the game 2-2. Then on the remaining powerplay, Whitecourt forward Dylan Ruptash would score his second of the game, giving the Wolverines the 3-2 lead, and that’s how the game would finish.

Drumheller – Trip Jensen (1st goal as a Dragon)
Whitecourt – Ewan McPherson (1G, 2A)
Sunday, the Dragons would welcome the Olds Grizzlys. The Dragons have had their troubles scoring on the Grizzlys in the Memorial Arena and that would again be the case. The Grizzlys would score early in the first with Jaxson Doyle scoring his first of the year.
That would be the only goal until the Dragons thought they had tied it up late in the third period but the goal was waived off by the referee as the Grizzlys net was off its moorings. On the ensuing faceoff, Bailey Shortall of Olds would seal the deal with an empty net goal, giving the Grizzlys the 2-0 win. Of the Olds six wins on the year, two have been against the Dragons, and both were in the Memorial Arena.
