The Drumheller Dragons announced a big announcement for our community on Wednesday, October 2.
It was confirmed that Drumheller will host an World Junior A Hockey Challenge exhibition game featuring Team Canada East versus Team Sweden on Saturday, December 7th. Boedy Shields Director of Operations for the Drumheller Dragons shares how Drumheller was able to secure the exhibition game. “Boris Rybelka, who is the chair of the World Junior A Hockey Challenge, reached out to us and wanted to know if Drumheller would be interested in hosting an exhibition game. Obviously, we jumped all over that. We get to see Team Canada East take on Team Sweden, two top teams in the tournament. It’s going to be fun seeing international hockey right here in Drumheller. ”
All of the players that will be on the ice for Team Canada East at the exhibition game will be new to the fans comments Shields. “Lots of those players are coming from the Ontario junior leagues, Maritime Junior League, and a few Quebec based players. We will see many (college) committed players in this tournament. Lots of these players go on to get drafted into the NHL and make a career out of professional hockey. We’re seeing the top end talent in Canada for Junior A level of players.”
The game also coincides with a Dragons home game later that night. “What we’ve done is offered a bundled ticket. You get your ticket for the World Junior A game and that also includes your ticket for the Dragons game that night, which is also our annual Teddy Bear Toss game. We’ve already sold over 500 tickets for it. We are only one day into it being announced and we are almost halfway sold out. Don’t wait around, they’ll be gone before you know it.” Tickets for both the World Junior A exhibition game and the Dragons game are $30 for adults, or $20 for students and seniors. Individual tickets for the World Junior A exhibition game are $18 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. Tickets are available online at tickets.drumhellerdragons.ca.
