The Calgary Police Rodeo has been an annual event welcoming first responders and families of first responders to participate in rodeo events.
The 2024 rodeo was held this past weekend and a local barrel racer had the chance to participate. Kimberly Augart was invited to participate as her husband and her are firefighters with the Drumheller Fire Department. Augart shared that this was her second invitation and was honoured to be involved. “We did pretty good, considering my horse has never been a rodeo setting before. She was very good and did her best. The crowd was amazing and the competitors were incredible.” They had competitors in all of the rodeo events from all across Alberta, from as far away as Grande Prairie.
Augart notes that this was a milestone event for the organizers. “This is there 40th anniversary and we were so excited to be part of it. Everybody is so welcoming and so friendly. You meet everybody from all divisions, all across Alberta. It’s wonderful meeting other people that may have not ridden a horse before and they’re in events. The weather was great and couldn’t have been better.”
The competitors varied in skill level from beginner to seasoned veteran.
